ݮƵ students, alumni and La Mirada neighbors crowded around hot chocolate tables bundled in unusual southern California necessities — coats and scarves — to participate in the university’s 30th annual Christmas tree lighting.
Nearly 3,000 people were in attendance to participate in the count down to the lighting of the tree, led by 101-year-old Virginia Moats, a friend of Biola, this year.
A Biola student band led the crowd through Christmas carols while the audience was led in lighting individual candles creating a candlelight service atmosphere. The area was turned into a snowy winter wonderland once the tree was lit — soapy suds simulating snow rained down from above.
Christmas music and crafts were in abundance for guests to enjoy. Following the tree lighting, a free concert featuring artists Jadon Lavik, Evan Wickham, Tyrone Wells, Dominic Balli, Trevor Davis and the PawnShop Kings was hosted by ݮƵ Associated Students.
